Lew's: What Is Lfs, And Why The "in Between" Ratios?

Featured Replies

I thought maybe Lew's marketing was just trying to split the gap and create new gear ratio standards, but I'm happy I was wrong:

The new LFS platform is physically smaller than before. It palms better. The smaller profile called for a slightly smaller spool thus decreasing your IPT. To combat this, they increased the gear ratios from 6.4 to 6.8 & 7.1 to 7.3.

The previous reels were:
6.4 28" / 7.1 31"

LFS:
6.8 28" / 7.5 31"

Also, the forward line guide on the BB-1 Pro is now standard on LFS reels. The longer distance reduces friction and increases casting distance. The lower profile also brings the line down more in line with the stripper guide.

Even the bare bones Speed Spool ($99) has audible click star drag.

Lew's Speed Spools - Lighter Faster Stronger

Spool size is probably why the ratios are "in bewtween"

Ipt is the important number most of the time imo

Hahaha...didn't I just say that?

Lighter Faster Stronger. Because they can.

That's interesting. I was kind of hoping they were a bit faster as well, guess not then.

I got a BB1HZL at the last fishing show. I'd marry it if I could. Bought 3 more since and have yet to get rods for them.
