Mini Heart Attack

Featured Replies

So I saw a small (about the size of a golf ball) oil puddle under the skeg of my Johnson 70 two stroke, right under the prop.  I have been idling the boat for about 30 seconds one or two times during the day the last couple days to test out some new fuel and electrical modifications.  I researched online that this was normal with the 50:1 ratio as it does not burn all of that oil for such short running times. Anyone else have this issue or heard of this before?  Oil is not gold in color, looks jet black.

We had this same issue on the old Merc 115 before we sold/bought a new boat. Yours have the hose attachment or are you using muffs? We tested ours for a couple days after the rebuild and after the first time on the lake, it didn't happen anymore.

Earmuffs.  :-)

two strokes do not burn all the oil till they are hot, usually the black oil is called spooge. It is the unburned fuel mix full of carbon from the fuel burn process.

Never checked on that before. ;-)

From what I researched that issue is pretty common. Scared me half to death though lol.
