Pinnacle Primmus....inital Impressions.

There was recently a review of this reel.  This is not a review.

I have been reading some good reviews on bassresource about Pinnacle rods and reels, and have been wanting to try some of their products.  This is my first ever Pinnacle product.  I see TW still has the Primmus, but I don't see them on the Pinnacle website, so I assume this particular model is no longer being made.

First let me say the box is probably worth $10.  :teeth:  Definitely the nicest looking of any I have.

Many feel red trim has been done to death, but I have only been into baitcast reels since '09 and I think this is my 3rd reel with red trim.  Red trim hasn't become passe to me.  The red trim parts on this reel (with the exception of the star drag) have had further machining done to them after being anodized.  This adds more bling since it adds silver to the color scheme.  Some may not like the extra bling, but I kind of like it.

Some turning was done after anodizing.  Most of the holes and dimples were made using center drills.  The holes through the side of the spool used a regular drill and drilled towards the center.  These holes have sharp edges and very slight burrs on the inside of the spool from the drilling.  Don't know how it will affect the line.  I may not even get to find out since I fill my spools to the beveled part of a spool, and have never made a 100 yard cast in my life.  Most of my casts will most likely only expose the outer edge of these holes.

I love the looks of a carbon fiber handle.  I like the fact this reel already has carbon fiber drag washers.  I appreciate the fact that I don't have to send it out for a cleaning since it has already been hand tuned and proper lubing taken care of already.  As the previous review stated, cranking this reel is very, very smooth.  Of course this is just playing with the reel with no line on it.

I'm not one bothered by the weight of reels such as the Zillion.  In fact my 50th Anniversary Zillion is one of my favorite reels.  However, this isn't to say that I can't also enjoy a reel as light as this one.  At less than 6 oz. this reel is LIGHT.

This may be my first Pinnacle product, but I think I can safely say it won't be my last.  Looking forward to some warm weather and the chance to get this reel on the water.  Who knows.  Maybe by then I will have a Perfecta DHC5 to mount it on.  :teeth3:

EDIT:  Forgot to mention the knobs.  I like their size, shape and texture.  Doubt they will be slippery when wet.

Having had the opportunity to use the Pinnacle Primmus, I can say with the utmost confidence that you will not be disappointed.
