Miami, Florida: Any Luck Since The Huge Rain Spike?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wondering how everyone did since that massive rain storm. I went out to my local lake and  the water level was much higher but didn't see any kind of activity in the water (bait fish and so on). I went through my regular routine and nothing. I really hope things pick up soon. First it was the on and off cold now the large amounts of rain, I need to hook up to something soon,,,,,,

Yeah pretty much the same thing happend to me today. I did manage one small bass about 12 inches. Caught on a t rig black senko. Caught nothing but weeds the rest of the day.

I have been doing pretty well in Weston from the bank.  You have to fish slow to be on the bite.  When you think its slow enough slow down some more.

I've been doing great this month at my local lake, late in the day and about an hour or two after sunset. PB on Sunday, and then beat that PB on Wednesday. Just keep at it, maybe if your regular routine doesn't work, switch it up. I switched my routine a bit. Started using new baits. BPS Stick-O's before sunset, black and blue swim jig after sunset, swimming pit boss around sunset, and junebug colored trick work after sunset.

I also took note of where the fish are before and after sunset. Before sunset they were held up on a rock ledge just in casting distance. After sunset the bite stopped there and moved up closer to the bank in shallow water with some grass.

Today though, nothing on the ledge, they were in the grass again before sunset this time. Then the dinks came to the shallow and the bigger fish were busting out in the center of the lake out of range. So it was time to call it quits for the night.

All I can say right now is that love is in the air in the canals. Peacocks and Bass are spawning. As far as the water levels go, the canals in my area are low. This makes peacock fishing interesting since they like to hang out around the limestone. As the water recedes, the limestone is exposed which drive the fish closer to the bank. Luckily for the fish, I will catch one or two for fun and quickly release. Other's if they manage to see these fish will pluck them from the water and put them in their buckets. :( Bass are in full spawning mode right now. Saw three beds with bucks. One had a nice female not ready to commit yet. ;) The other two where literally spawning with the full ritual of the body rubs and shakes. When this is happening forget about fishing for them. One nest in particular was a full out orgy. Pardon the expression. I have never seen this before. One nest, 4 bass. One big female, and what appeared to be 3 bucks. All I can say is that there was a lot of activity on that nest.  lol!! Another possibility is,  1 buck and three females waiting in line. Either way, very interesting seeing mother nature doing her thing.
