Carolina Skiff J16?

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever rigged one of these to bass fish out of? This would be for small ponds & lakes.

Front casing deck, trolling motor, etc? Are they stable enough to fish off the front deck, or would it be really wobbly?

I have a 17ft Carolina skiff that I bass fish from off the front deck and I love it.  The j16 is a little scaled down but I have been in one before and it felt plenty stable to me.  I have a 55 pound minn kota riptide(I fish fresh and salt) and it moves the boat good and doesn't drain the batteries fast at all.

This is the only picture I have of my front deck right now, but it can give you an idea of what I have.

Edit:  Not sure why its warped looking, but it still gives the idea.

I do think it would be comfortable doing that.  A lot of time my buddy is standing on a cooler right behind my front deck and we never have any issues.  Carolina skiff makes a very solid boat too.

My neighbor has a J16 CC and it's very stable for its size. We fish 2 fat old guys with a big Lab and haven't fallen out yet. The only thing I dislike is the standing rod holders and very little storage space.

They are supposed to be super stable boats. They have great rep for stable and shallow running. I have considered a bay cat for myself but I don't like the no closed and lockable storage.

Yesterday, I was on my friends J12 out in the intracoastal and ocean and am amazed by the stability of that boat. We went a few miles off shore into 4-6 foot waves. Yes it sounds stupid, but it's pretty normal here in south florida. In the intracoastal that little boat felt like a rock. I wouldn't hesitate buying it because of a stability issue.
