Questions Dissecting Small Shallow Lake For Pre-Spawn

Featured Replies

My first tournament of the year is in a small shallow(ave depth 4-5 ft, a few holes at 9ft). I am not to familiar with lakes this shallow. This lake is located north of the Mason Dixon line so it is a cold weather reservoir. It has lots of vegetation in the backwaters and not a ton of structure. It has docks in the main lake also. I am set to start to pre-fish it this weekend. Where will bass winter on a lake like this? Will they come out to the main lake and just find a deeper dock to suspend by or a slow tapering point? Then as the pre-spawn begins start to move towards the backwater areas to spawn? Lake is currently at 42 degrees. Will be near 55-60 by the time the tournaments starts in a couple weeks. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

if the water temp is gonna be between 55-60 i would imagine the fish would be starting to move up or already making beds, so i would look for beds and I'm a dock person so i would fish docks all day but thats just me and i find that when fish are about to move up to spawn i catch them in the main lake  more
