Most bouyant wood

Featured Replies

I know pine, basswood, etc are fine for wake baits/topwaters but I will be adding some weight with the build up on this particular bait so I am looking for an extra bouyant wood.  How about Balsa?

Suggestions?

balsa, but make sure you put a REALLY thick, tough topcoat on it (several coats of devcon) because its so soft and i know you're targeting big fish with it ;)

no way, chewed up baits just plain work better ;)

Balsa is very buoyant, but I hate working with it.  Maybe I just like power tools ;D

balsa wood is the mose bouyant and can take a lot of abuse.    Sealed properly with a couple of coats of epoxy and it will last a long time.
