I Don't Understand: Bobber Stop / What Is Punching

Featured Replies

What is punching, is that dropping your lure down into heavy cover? Or casting into it?

And... see this -- http://www.*.com/Eagle-Claw-Bobber-Stop-p/eagleclaw-bobberstop.htm-- I understand a bobber stop. I guess I do. It stops your bobber at a certain depth, for using a sliding bobber setup so you can cast it. But on that page, the people talk about it like it is to stop the weight. ???

Okay, punching is a way to get thru heavy cover.  You use bobbler stops to hold the heavy weight (3/4-2oz) up against the bait.  This is important because you want the bait to fall with the weight.  Now you use the weight to get thru mats of vegatation and instead of your bait hitting nice and soft, you underhand/or side arm it high enough so when it hits the water you brake thru.  Of course you only use enough weight to get thru the mat and then work it like a yo-yo. Don't get bit wind in and repeat.  Heavy line (most use 50lb braid or better) heavy flipping stick, and a fast reel with a high IPT pick up.  This is true combat fishing and once you understand how it works, it can be extremely productive although it isn't for everyone.

You use the bobber stopper to peg your weight against your bait so. It stays as one piece so to speak. It prevents the bait from going on one side of a branch and the weight on the other. It allows the bait to punch through. Makes a flipping bait more like a jig.

You might need more than one.. Depending

( Bobber stop ) the rubber version, not the

Thread/tube type of bobber stop...

There are other ways to use a bobber stop, not just for punching...

You can put one above the weight as was explained,

OR under the weight to keep it above the hook and let it slide up as you work it for that type of presentation.

OR you can put one on top and under to make a fast poor mans c rig.
