6' 6" St. Croix Triumph X Casting Rod

Featured Replies

Just received this rod as a belated birthday gift.  I already have a casting rod that I use and like.  So then, what special purpose shall I set this thing up for?

Rod specs are..

- 6'6"

- MH fast

- lure wt. up to 1oz.

3/8 oz bottom contact baits, 3/8-1/2 oz spinnerbaits and other single hook moving baits. Since it's a st Croix mh, you can fish 1/2 oz bottom baits with it as well. Jerkbaits, spooks, the list goes on. That's a very versitale stick.

Spinnerbait rod for sure!!!! I have a 6'6" MH-F rod that I have as a dedicated spinnerbiat rod, I can roll cast with fantastic accuracy and get my spinnerbait into some tight spots and still cast with decent distance.

I own the avid and the ltb version of that rod and if will do well fishing worms/ jigs/ bigger spinnerbaits and I love to use mine fishing fat ikas and senkos. It is a great rod to fish cover with, flipping aside.

From one heron to another:

A 6'6" MH is a very versatile rod. It will do most things well. It's ideal applications are Texas rigged worms, jigs, and spinnerbaits. I'd throw buzz baits, larger shakey heads, and wacky jig senkos in there too.

Very versatile rod indeed. I have a similar rod (medium) that I use for topwaters, jerkbaits and spinnerbaits. The major advantage to a shorter rod is casting accuracy. I generally use mine when I go to a local pond that has a lot of shore cover, so there is not much space to cast when bank-fishing.
