Lake Wylie Sc/nc

Featured Replies

I have a tournament here May 16. I have never fished here before and know NOTHING about this lake. I fish Lake Hartwell every weekend. My questions are: Any similarities with Hartwell? What baits? What stage of spawn are the fish in, if they are still spawning? (Hopefully done by then). Also would like to know some general details about the lake. Any added information is great. I appreciate anything you can give. Thanks!!

Ok Lake Wylie is my home lake and is nothing like Hartwell. It is usually pretty dingy and has no herring. The bass should be in post spawn. Try the mouths of creeks on the bottom end of the lake near Allison creek and Crowders creek. A jig, spinnerbait, and shakey-head should do well so should a squarebill like a 1.5 in a shad or bluegill pattern. Try a buzzbait in the morning. As a rule of thumb the lower end is clearer than the top end.

Good Luck.

A carolina rigged pink hula popper was the ticket for me today. I would cast it over the dam and work it down burning it of course. Another thing was a buzzbaits hoped off the bottoms in about 25 feet of water.

But really Jigs, Shakey heads, and Spinnerbaits are usually the go to baits. There is a good chance the water may turn the color of chocolate milk so be ready for that. Pretty much what Brady said fish the mouths of the creeks. Do you know where you are launching from ?
