E6X Vs Avid

Featured Replies

If you had to choose between either a G Loomis E6x and a St Croix Avid, which would you choose. I'm looking to use it for bottom contact baits mostly, prob MH power for jigs and soft plastics. That you in advance for you advice!

I have both and it's a toss up. It's as though Loomis made this rod to go head to head specifically with the Avid. Forced with a gun to my head, I'd go Avid. But that's for the simple reason that I've had one longer and I could easily flip flop in a year!

Whichever handle feels better - they are different. I prefer the Avid handle, but that's purely personal preference.

Well thank you both for your reponses. It will most likely be paired with Chronarch 200e7 with 15 lb flouro, an I suspect both will balance equally. I am able to handle the avid at a local field and stream. I'm just in able to hold the e6x before purchasing. It's a toss up, either 843c mbr or mh fast.

The Avid that I use is the 6'8" MXF, with a Chronarch 50E. My E6X is the 783C Mag Bass with a Chronarch 200E6. I was in the process of deciding on another Avid 6'6" MF for a Calcutta 100B, but I ended up with a G Loomis SBR 752C instead...the jury is still out on this combo, but it looks promising so far.

What weight baits do you plan to throw on either rod? If you choose Avid, 1/4 to 1/2 oz is the sweet spot range for the M. Above that, I'd go MH. As has been said many times on this forum, the MH Avid is more stout than average.

I would most likely throw 1/4-3/8 oz trigs and 3/8 oz jig for the most part

In that case, I definitely would recommend the M/F if you go the Avid route. I own Avids in both M/F and MH/F, but have only handled the E6Xs in stores. My two takeaways on the E6X were that the handle was slim and the balance point (without reel) was about 3-4 inches further down the blank (toward tip) than a similiar Avid. But I think either rod would be a fine choice.

I own both the avid 7mf and the loomis e6x mbr843. Both are great rods and should match up nicely with the chronarch.

It's really going to come down to your personal preference deciding which to buy. Unless you need to purchase right now I'd wait for one of them to go on sale and then purchase. Gander mountain regularly has the avid on sale for $125 and cabelas keeps marking down the E6X in store. They are currently $119.

I personally prefer the loomis mbr843 I've mostly used it for throwing spinner baits, but it's been an awesome rod so far.

Thanks everyone, I might wait and get my hands on the e6x before ordering
