Anyone Fishing Quabbin Resivoir?

Featured Replies

I have a boat tagged for the Quabbin and only been once so far and that was Sunday on opening weekend. We caught 12 smallies all pretty nice and water temp 48 megabass vision 110 jerk bait seemed to be the choice for the day. Heading back this Friday gate 43 and heard water is around 60 should be beds soon. Looking for any updates.

Was there on Monday also gate 43 about the same as you 12-14 smallies 2 over 5lbs, no sign of spawning all the fish we caught had no tails torn up and we didn't see any beds.  caught all our fish on jerkbaits spinnerbaits and bladebaits biggest coming out of 15 to 25ft  jerkbait fish were right up tight to the banks.water temps ran from 53 to 65 degrees depending on location.  Had some trailer issues and its at the shop getting some welding done if I get it back by tomorrow I'll be there on Thurs.

They are spawning now. I'll avoid the beds until the big females go deep. That's when I really enjoy the bass fishing there.

I'm just getting back into fishing this year. If anyone's looking for a fishing partner for the Quabbin, I'd love to team up.

Thanks!

Going to Quabbin this weekend hoping to get there early and rent a boat, anything in particular I should know? Have never been before

1).  Have a plan.  It's a lot of water and you can spend a large part of your day just looking if you don't scout the maps prior to heading out.  Lots of humps, bumps, deep water subponds, bars and points though so there is no shortage of options depending on what you're after, that's for sure.

2).  Prepare to be wowed by the scenery and water clarity.  Eagles are everywhere and the farther west you go on the water, the clearer it gets.  Not a lot of places you can sight fish structure in 20-30fow, y'know?

3).  GO EARLY, and especially if you're planning on renting a boat.  I will show up 45mins early and nap in my car if I have to, but I've showed up early, been third in line and still not gotten a boat before as they are total jalopies and often are out of commission due to mechanical issues.  On the weekends it can get insane too so I generally relegate my Q trips to weekdays now.  Being first in line is key on any day though.

I'm headed up there tomorrow myself, gate 43- although I'm headed to the pond side as I'm more of a cover fishing/LMB guy.  I'm supposed to go with someone but I always like having a boat to myself if I can help it- lets me lay all my gear out the way I like to without accommodating another person's spatial requirements.  I can't freakin' wait to get up there.  I've been vibrating with anticipation for days.

Let me know how your trip goes. I want to check out the Quabbin for LMB next month.

Thanks for the pointers, we'll be going for LMB and SMB specifically Sunday, try to get there at 5 for the 6AM start and hope to grab a boat. Good luck on your trip too!
