Doughbaits for Bass?

Featured Replies

Anyone know of any doughbaits out there, either homemade or on the market, that are appealing to Bass?  Do Bass have any smell mechanizisms that would make them appeal to a certain type of stinkbait the way Catfish and Carp do?

I've seen bass eat doughballs but I think it was only because it was moving and the bass thought it was a fish or bug. I don't think I've ever seen a specific doughball product for bass, as far as I know, bass mainly feed on bugs, fish, and crayfish and I think they eat more based on movement and shape than smell. (they're more likely to eat a moving thing than a smelly thing)

the only doughbaits I know for bass are the baits I spend plenty of dough on.  :-/ (groan) :)

They take the live baits because there are other organisms already in the water that will eat, or dismantle the dead things, and return it back into the food chain.  A bass is a larger creature that will feed off of things that move, only because of a "freshness" or "taste" desired by their taste buds, or other sensory glands.  Nothing that any other simple creature wouldn't do.  :)  You wouldn't eat a rubber hamburger because it tasted real, would you?  I know I wouldn't!

I have heard of bass hitting on dough balls.  My cousin and I do alot of carp fishing on the grand River in Lansing MI and we have caught quite a few bass on dough balls.  We are just using balls of bread on a hair rig.  If anyone wants to go carp fishing use a hair rig with a dough ball.

Good Luck
