Helicoptering In The Air

Featured Replies

I have never used a chatterbait until today; bought a 3/8oz Z-man to try out. I love this bait! However, I had a heckuva time with it doing the helicopter in the air. But I was also testing a new rod/reel. Which I also love! It threw so awesome, zero backlashes. But anyway, wondering if there is a solution to solving the no helicopter cast. Sometimes, spinnerbaits have done this in the past. I guess I need to experiment with different cast technique. I guess the other thing is since I was testing the rod/reel, I was making long casts. Extra energy probably makes the problem worse.

You're putting too much oomph into it. Back off a bit and see if that helps.

Be careful! Roland Martin might sue you for helicoptering a lure. He use to produce Helicopter Lures! LOL!

Usually happens when you are trying to muscle it. What are you using for a trailer? I don't have a problem slinging mine with a rage menace on it. I don't use zman, but bluebasser86 big head wobbler is always on at least 2 rods. ;)

Put less on the cast and also try a lob like cast.
