I just started using Yum plastic worms with a drop shot rig and got a few nice fish but not as many as I had expected.  I was using 6" blue Yum worms in a muddy farm pond.  I was wondering is 6 inch possibly too big?  And would darker colors or lighter colors be better in muddy water?  

 

Thanks so much for any suggestions, I'm very new to this type of fishing strategy.  

The darker colors will work better in murky farm ponds. My favorites for muddy water in small bodies of water are purple, blue, and black. Try using a Zoom finesse worm 4.5 inch, you will probably catch more fish. Good luck!

I like black in muddy water...a lot!

Got a lot of bites on 5" whites today.  For whatever reason we are getting more bites on brighter colors, but I'm starting to suspect there is no rhyme or reason to what fish bite on

 

I really prefer the 6" as far as casting etc, but if we're going to get a lot of bites on 5" 's I'll probably have to get more of those in the future.  

The 5 in. works better for me.When the bass go into there summer patterns that is when I kick in the bigger baits,.Junebug is a good color,black,black chart. and try a worm rattle in the stickbait near the hook.

Drop shotting in muddy water is likely not the best option, as it is designed as a finesse presentation. (you definition of muddy and mine could differ greatly). That being said, bright or dark colors would be seen easier than natural colors.

I'm not sure that it's the greatest thing in the world, but it's something I can drop off the side of the boat and not have to worry about while I'm working something else

Oh I found I can get worm rattles for $5 -$9 on Ebay.  Are they worth it?  I've been fishing a lot this year and probably have had less than 3 strikes on baits with rattles.
