Spinning Rod "reeling Hand"

Featured Replies

I am a righty. 7 of my 10 rods are BC's and I reel those with my right hand. The other three are spinning rods. I also feel them with my right hand. ALL of my fellow right handed friends reel with their left hand on their spinning rods and right on their BC's. Am I the only "righty" that reels with my right hand on spinning rods? I know it's all personal preference but I am curious......

There is no wrong way. It's what you have adapted to. Preferably the dominant arm should be handling the rod and the non-dominant/hand does the reeling, but in many cases this is not the case. I am a natural lefty and when I am using spinning gear. I will cast with my left arm and switch hands to reel. That's the way I grew up fishing. however, when I switched to a b/c yrs ago, it was a natural shift. I cast with my left and retrieve with my right.

I also reel with my right on both baitcasting and spinning so you arent alone

I know a guy that fishes just like that and he is a lefty too. It's all personal preference. :-)

Glad I'm not alone Tim! Lol. :-)

I also thought I was alone in reeling right handed with both spinning and casting.  It's good to know there are others!

Personal preference.  I'm a righty but I cast with my right and reel with my left on both casting and spinning rods.

I've spent sometime reading on an Australian bream forum and it seems they are reel right pole left. I wonder if it has anything to do with the toilets flushing in the opposite direction?

Anyways I'm weird. I wrote lefty; throw a ball righty. Hold the rod in the left and reel right. It works and fits me.

I'm right handed and use right handed casting reels and left handed spinning reels. That's the way I learned.
