    The telescopic version usually collapses down to a smaller profile so you can store it in a rod locker on a boat since many don't hold rods of that length. I had a telescopic flipping stick once, I returned it because the handle was stuck and it felt like a lead pipe. I don't even know why I bought it, I don't own a boat  :Idontknow:
