Air Brush Paint Choices..

Featured Replies

So i got an syphon (bottle) fed airbrush. I need to know what type of paint to get.. I want to airbrush some spinner blades and since it doesnt need sealer i guess i can just airbrush onto the blades right? Does Createx Florescent wear off easily? Or have you guys heard of Netcraft water based paint? Which one seems better or lasts longer?

You will still need some form of sealer to seal paint in. Water based paints like createx will not last well in a water enviroment. I would start with some scotchbrite pads and scuff blades up to give paint something to adhere to, and still may need an etching primer. Wood cranks require 2 sealers, one for wood and 2nd for paint. For spinner blades i would reccomend an automotive clear coat for sealing paint. Not as durable as crank sealers like devcon 2ton but also nowhere near as thick and heavy either.

Yes you can paint water based Createx directly onto a blade without a primer as long as your topcoat is durable enough.  I use a moisture cured urethane (Dick Nite S81) over Createx to paint spoons.  There are several ways to go, you need to choose a regimen of coatings that are durable and compatible with each other.  Take a look at the Dick Nite site.  He builds and sells spoons and also sells coatings to hobbyists.  He uses solvent based lacquers to paint his spoons and topcoats them with his own proprietary moisture cured urethane.
