15Lb Test Vs 25Lb Test Vs Braid

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've been fishing Bass with 15lb Fluorocarbon my whole life.  Yet when I watch all the fishing shows I see pros using 25lb, 30lb, or braid for the same Jig n Pig set up I use.

I've never had this line break unintentionally but I can't help wondering if I'm missing out on something or have just been lucky with no breaks besides a few Gar ripping it up with their teeth.  Anyone else use 15lb over the heavier stuff with equal results?  Have I not been catching big enough Bass?  lol

Heavier Cover= Heavier Line

Deep Water= Lighter line

Vegetation= Braid

I would say that if you aren't breaking off and you don't have line pinch issues (on a baitcaster), then you should be mint. Sometimes you may get line pinch with too small diameter braid on a baitcaster.

Thanks guys.  I'll probably just stick with what's been working.  Never tried braid though, might have to give that a shot next time I'm in some thick weeds.

Welcome aboard, Jake!

Definitely consider giving it braid a try at some

point. But if your setup is working, stick with it.

I use braid on all my spinning and casting setups

and I always use a leader. Braid just manages

so much better than straight mono, fluoro, etc.
