Sealing Question

Featured Replies

I am finishing a popper, and the time has come to seal the wood. Can I use Fly Tying head cement for this purpose?????

I use super glue and a coat of epoxy.   Not sure about the head cement.

I second the use of epoxy.  I use Dev Con 2-ton 30 min.  There is a 5 min. version. Make sure you don't get that one.

if the popper is small enough then go ahead and use head cement. it will work but its not very practical as you're covering a lot of area with head cement, and you'll use a lot of head cement, and its not very cheap.

try using polyurethane to seal baits.

The only thing about epoxies that "self level", is sometimes they will pull away from sharp angles. Keep this in mind around the bottom of the lip/mouth of the lure. You may need more than one coat to prevent water from getting into the wood in this area. Also upon top coating the lure as well.
