I've been looking all over for a good universal rod for my Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Reel. My current set up is a 6'6 Ugly Stik GX2 Medium rod. I have been looking into Duckett Ghost rods as a potential option. I mostly throw weightless texas rigged worms and on occasion frogs and crank baits. People have been telling me to get a 7' MFH rod. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.

Your specified baits would usually mean THREE rods for most folks.  Weightless t-rigs might mean a medium-power, fast or extra-fast action rod.  Frogs are most often tossed on a medium-heavy, or heavy power rod.  Crankbaits are typically tossed on a medium, or medium-heavy (depending on the weight of the bait) power rod with a moderate, or moderate-fast action.

 

Many feel that if you can only have a SINGLE baitcasting rod, then a ~7' medium-heavy, fast action rod is as close as you can come to covering the most bases.  Depending on how soft the tip is, it may, or may not, give marginal service for cranking however.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and do you have any recommendations on specific brands for a ~7' medium-heavy fast action rod?

I'd get the MH ghost for t rigs and frogs and use your ugly stik for cranks.

A good suggestion.....but then you need another BC reel.  And so it goes...the slippery slope to tackle-mania...

 

OP - what gear ratio is your current PQ?  If you could swing another PQ, you could have a 6.4:1 or 7.1:1 on the Ghost and a 5.2:1 on the Ugly Stik.

My Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier is a 7:1:1 gear ratio

Maybe a bit past your budget but I have a St Croix Medium 7' that would work for those applications.

I've done all of those with mine.

Used ones come up once in awhile if you don't have the 200 bucks.

Buy once; cry once.

You can throw any type lure on a mod-fast rod, so look for a mh mod-fast rod if you can only have 1. Like Falcon 6'8" or 7' Lowrider. Instead of a second reel, maybe just buy a second spool, have mono on one spool for cranks, braid on one spool for frogs, and tie on a leader for t-rigs.

My best all around rod that I use for bank fishing is 7ft MH Avid. I have had this rod for several yrs now and its been battle tested many of times.
