Bps Carbonlite Rods : Old Vs. New ?

Featured Replies

There have been reports that the "new" BPS Carbonlite rods are not as good of performance as the previous "old" version carbonlite rods... For those of you who have fished with both - please detail your findings ? Thanks in advance for your replies !

You should message DarrenB. He has both. I dont have the new one yet to compare.

I have several Carbonlites in black and one in white.  The new one is 7' MH with regular line guides and I do not see a hint of a difference from the black ones.  The white rods have titanium line guide inserts, which are pretty light, and which may be why the white rod is .5 oz lighter then my comparable 7' MH black rods.  I have a mouth full of titanium dental implants screwed to my jaws. Good stuff, really strong and not cheap.

Not sure how they compare but I will never buy a rod with a white blank.... ewww.

Color doesn't bother me ... I want to consider a new Carbonlite baitcast rod for all - around use and the old / black versions were previously rated high .

Hoosier, I will never wear white sunglasses..too Jersey Shore for me :)

Chris, they're both excellent rods, very light, plenty strong.

I own black and white in spinning and casting and find

myself picking up the white models more often than black.

Why? I'm not 100% sure, but I *think* the white models

are a tad more crisp than the black.

I've got a Chronarch 50e on a black and one on a white.

The black is a ML, the white is a MH. Clearly the ML is for

lighter stuff, but I can throw almost the same stuff on my

MH.

Spinning - both are M and both have Stradic FI 1000 reels.

Consider if buying new, that suppose your black one breaks

and you take it in under warranty for a swap. You'll get a

white one in return...

Thanks Darren !! ... One option I like about having a BPS super store near me is that I can gointo the store and choose from several carbonlites in the same length , action and power ...I'm pretty picky about straight rod blanks , properly alligned rod guides , etc. As much as I love places like TW - for bigger ticket items I like to choose in person .

Same here. I pick up several rods and carefully look

them over in BPS for straight guides, etc.

Ha ha, thats funny so do I.   Probably takes me 20min before I pick one.

I got a Carbonlite ML spinning rod when they were new.  I guess they are now called the Carbonlite CL series selling for around $100.  Compared to a Shimano Crucial dropshot rod of the same power, I prefer the action and sensitivity of the Shimano (which admittedly costs 50% more).  One thing that chapped me about the Carbonlite - the hook keeper was not stainless steel and rusted off in about a year.  I cut it off and wrapped on another keeper but guess that's one of the little bugs you can get with a rod built under contract in China.  My bottom line - OK rod, probably worth the price but I wouldn't call it "special".  I use it as a loaner to guests in my boat.
