Which Rod Matches What Technique?

Featured Replies

6'6 M with Braid and a 12# fluoro leader

6'6 MF 12# mono

6'6 MH with 15# PowerPro Braid

Any suggestions? I want to maximize my production!

They're all spinning. I was doing walk the dog baits with the MF, drop shot with the M and frogs and shakeyheads with the braid.

What else?!

Just my opinions here:

6'6 M with Braid and a 12# fluoro leader - Crankbaits
6'6 MF 12# mono - topwater anything, swim jigs, chatterbaits
6'6 MH with 15# PowerPro Braid - 1/4 oz finesse jig, texas rig plastic, buzzbait

Spinning gear isn't ideal for frogging heavy cover, it provides less leverage and normally a slower reel like a 5.2:1. I would also up to 30lb for fishing cover, over 15lb.

But I see no reason you can't throw a frog, even if your setup isn't ideal. When I bring one rod and fish from the bank it's a 6'6" MH with 30lb braid. I use a leader when I throw treble hooks, and will fish any bait I have with that rod even a frog. It is not ideal but you can make it work.

Thanks man,i appreciated!

Well you got 6'6" covered. Why didn't you get anything longer when you changed weights?

I use 6'6" for jerk baits and crank baits. Most everything else is 6'9" to 7'4".

You can get away with shorter rods for treble baits but need a bit more rod for soft baits and frogs.

You are also giving up distance on your casts.

I will be getting a bigger rod sometime soon but it'll only be a spinning rod.

I need to see something cheap yet good in my budget!

I also want to up my braid from 15# but I'm not 100% yet.
