Cracked paint crankbait

Featured Replies

Ben, can't tell for sure by the picture but it looks like an incapability problem with paints or topcoat.

you done this on purpose, what a nice affect. when i was painting cars i would get this some times  not that i wanted to but  it was from not getting all the wax off   not just fisheyes but those seperations

might be a new trend   john

Very nice, fishwhittler.  Crackle is an interesting effect....I'd like to try it sometime as well.

Very nice! I've tried it a couple time's but never comes out how I want it to. How long do you leave the crackle medium on? I usually let mine dry completely, is that what your supposed to do?

All though I don't care for the colors, the crackle effect looks good. Personally I'm thinking sexy shad colors with that crackle effect, or maybe a Tennessee shad!

Thanks, but I did the crackle on purpose. Sorry to have caused any confusion.

Thanks! I didn't use any crackle medium though. What I did was spray the bait white with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust paint and while it was still wet I sprayed Rust-Oleum flo. orange on the sides and flo. yellow on the belly and applied a heat gun. Interestingly enough, I tried the same thing with Rust-Oleum flo. green and it refused to crackle. I guess the chemistry in the green is different.

Ben

Crackle is fun but it can be hard to get both sides of the bait to crackle in similar patterns.  For those who want to try it, get some acrylic crackle medium, comes in a bottle just like regular acrylic latex paint.  The directions say to put on the medium and dry it.  It usually works better to leave it wet and overspray it with your color, then dry them both with a hair dryer.
