seen this bait before?

Featured Replies

I went to wallworld tonight to get some essentials for the wife -- diet coke, diapers, etc.  I went back to sporting goods JUST TO LOOK.  I SWEAR, I was just going to look.  I'm on a bit of a tight budget right now, but the bait monkey NEEDED a fix.  So I was looking through the box of Riverside plastics.  Now, I'm not a big fan of riverside stuff.  But I've heard that they're basically YUM seconds, so I thought it couldn't hurt to see what they had for $1 a bag.  And I found these...

Anybody familiar with these?  They don't seem to be a YUM product.  Any good ideas for rigging em?  I was thinking they might work good on a small jig head or weightless.  May one of those EWG hooks with the weight on the shank?

The bait monkey made me do it, I swear!!!

Yea, I've seen them before.  Them, and a whole lot of other baits.  Softer, harder, darker, lighter, smaller, bigger, brighter, duller, heaver, lighter...  That bait right there is called a "Bait Monkey Fix-er."  There's no way in the world you'll ever catch a bass off that thing, but that's not why you bought it.  You bought it for a bait monkey fix! ;D

I bet if you used an EWG, and sliding weight, that you could rig it much like you would every other bait.  Texas or carolina, your choice!  Tell us what happens!

Looks like a goby

Exactly what I was thinking. I would rig that thing up on a drop shot and throw it at Lake Erie smallies...

It's a goby or a sculpin, but with that tail it looks like it was designed for swimming.  I would try it on a jighead, fishing slowly and keeping it on or close to the bottom.  A shaky head technique might work too.

I agree with Avalonjohn44, with that tail it looks more like a swimming type bait.

Couldnt agree more and if your fishing the great lakes hold onto your rod, I hear the smallies are climbing all over these type baits...

With that tail, it's begging for a Slider head.
