Si Transducer Installation

Featured Replies

Hello folks!  I am preparing to install my new fish finder and I want to see what you guys think.  The current 2D transducer is located here:

To me it looks like this would have enough clearance under the motor mount and is completely unobstructed from the sides.  I was planning on removing the current transducer, filling the wholes and installing a sternmate because I shudder at the thought of actually drilling in the boat for installing.  Thoughts or comments?

That location is OK as long as you are sitting still or at slow idle speed.

If you want on-plane depth readings it has to be at the BOTTOM of the hull either on the exterior or as a shoot-thru.

I have been thinking about ordering a shoot-thru to handle the higher speed imaging as I do want to make use of DI and 2D and if I am correct the current location would be optimal?

For the Side Imaging transducer along with a shoot-thru, the Side Imaging transducer should be just below the right side engine mount bolts at the same level as in your picture. That places it as close to the hull centerline as possible without being contacted by the outboard.

Your present transducer is crooked. Don't do that again.

Also in that location it has no water contact when on plane and is impossible to give you any depth/imaging data.

You connect the two transducers to the display with the AS SIDB Y cable.

That cable disconnects the 83/200 kHz 2D crystal in the SI transducer and connects the shoot-thru 83/200 kHz transducer in its place. The plug that attaches to the display is the same one that the SI transducer has so there is no menu changes needed.

DI with a core unit Side Imaging unit is the same as SI. The sonar data is blended and reoriented using the data from the SI crystals.

Only the ONIX and ION have a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in the SI transducer.
