What do you think these are worth?

Featured Replies

I'm taking some lures to a craft show in about a week and I'm not sure about pricing. This will be the first time I have done this. Anyone have any suggestions about what I should charge for lures like the ones below?

Edit: These are NOT for sale here. I am not advertising for my lures.

Not even thinking about it..Just think about if you were buying it how much would you be willing to pay for it.

I'd say $8-$12 a piece given what sizes they are.

Those are some awesome lures.I couldn't see why they wouldn't sell for that much.

For someone who paints with nothing but spray cans, you do a great job...  I would say about 10-14, depending on how much time you put into them, and what size they are.  Look at baits around the same size, and shape of your design, and try to beat that price by at least 50 cents.  ;)

Ben, at a tackle show you are dealing mostly with men but at a craft show you will be dealing with women and thats a good thing. Most are buying for family members, friends or fellow workers who fish so your baits and paint schemes will sell very well. Make an attractive display and I'll bet you do well.

Size of a bait should have very little to do with price until you get into swimbaits. The small mini bait, thumbnail size, in my avatar takes just as time to make as a 3"crankbait. Good luck dude.

I guess the question depends on what you are wanting to do.  Are you looking to make money from this (cash in the pocket) or are you looking to unload some baits you have painted and maybe recoup your costs?  If you are looking to make money then you should be charging for your time and materials, if you are looking to get rid of some baits and maybe be able to get a few supplies for the next go around then you can probably afford to charge solely for materials.  Either way, I know around here it would depend on the day the ladies are having who would be your primary audience.  If they are in a spending mood then they will pay $8-$10 for a bait, but if they are holding tight to the purse then maybe $5.  This is a great gift idea......you better get some cheap business cards made to go along with the baits so their husbands can call for more if they like them.

Thanks everybody for your input.

Nick76, these are lures that I made specifically to sell to make money, I'm not just selling some old lures.

Ben

If that is the case, then by all means charge for both your labor and materials.  I would start in the $8-$10 range and then you will know where you stand for the next craft show.

Honestly I would try to go to a local tackle shop and see if they would let you sell on consignment that way you make money and they make money plus they can claim LOCAL MAKER. If your set on flea markets beware most people do not go to them looking to spend good money on much they are looking for a deal. Start small get recognized refine your technique then start selling for real. For now I would really just try to support your habit. lol

We have a local tackle shop that I sell my goop to[attractants] for consignment it works.Plus they're priceless, you take pride in what you are doing, it shows through the workmanship you've posted. So I would personally check out you local T-shop, and start producing, please let me know were you decide were to sell these gems.I wouldn't mind the black/blue being buy my side.Or you could give us a price, instead of guessing on what to pay.No more then 9.99 and that's for the paint jobs, Sweet.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there aren't any tackle shops near where I live so that really isn't an option for me.

I'm going to a craft show, not a flea market. At a flea market, you're right, people would probably be looking for a deal because they expect people to be trying to get rid of stuff they don't want. But at a craft show (where people pay to get in), folks will come expecting to pay more for a product that is handmade.

I've got business cards. If someone buys one of my lures and really likes it, I want them to know where to get more. ;) ;)
