Line Tie Angles For Swimbait Heads

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy some more swimbait heads (jigheads to place soft swimbaits on) but have not caught enough fish on a day with a swimbait to know what my hook up rate is on 30 degree vs 60 degree vs 90 degree line tie. I usually throw 3/16 oz to 1/2oz heads - any input appreciated. THANK YOU!

I fish mainly open or hard structure. When I am in grass I tend to go more to a belly weight but could do a jighead with weedguard - input always appreciated.

THANK YOU!

I am interested in some replies/opinions on the inquiry too!

Tom=WRB, Cat or the like let share the knowledge/experience!

You should really hook them all and I dont think the placement of the eye makes much difference. The only thing it really effects is weedlessness. The more towards the nose of the bait the less chance for grass to get caught and hang.

For example the heads for big hammers are 90 degrees and its a exposed hook. If you look at a "weedless" head it will be slightly off or the nose will drop straight down from it so there is no spot for stuff to catch.

I guess another example is a hudd vs a weedless version. The weedless ones have the line tie coming straight out the nose of the bait. They both hook fish no problem regardless of the angle of the tie.

Does a 90° have more of a darting action that a 30° ?

Seems to me it does just wondering what others observe

Umm I am not sure how to answer the darting question. What is it you are trying to achieve with your swimbaits? Darting shouldnt be one of them imo. Furthermore I have no idea how you are making them dart anyways and I fish a lot of swimbaits and I mean a lot. I would speculate though darting is more about head shape then line tie angle.
