newbi soft plastic hardner question(s)

Featured Replies

I have just started to make/learn softplatic lures....my first molds are a frog "looks like the yum brand" and a 5" stick bait.  I have plastisol and also bught some hardner....My first baits are too soft and feel kinda tacky to the touch...my goal is to get my plastics as close to the manufatures feel.  any tips on how much hardner to use or what is the best plastisol brands etc....would be great!

Hey kbass,

It sounds to me that you may need to mix the plastic better while it is in the jug. I dont know what brand you have but all of them need shaking or stirring before you heat it. Also, if you have a medium compound or a soft compound, you should not have to add much if any hardner. I use a medium compund for 80% of my pours and a soft for the stick baits. Once you add salt to the sticks then it will get harder and you wont need hardner at all for those. Hope that helps.
