Milwaukee Area Travel Fishing - Less Success Than Desired

Featured Replies

I've been in Wisconsin since the first week in October, first in Madison for a conference and now in Milwaukee area to collaborate with two artists. I'll be in Milwaukee till about the end of the month and then Richmond, Indiana and then Denver, then Austin about the middle of November.

Everything is new in my world - new vehicle (never lived in a van), new kayak (never had a boat) - it's a lot to handle, so I don't really blame myself too harshly for being on abysmal fishing.

I was able to go out several times in Madison, I caught a couple of bass and a couple of pike and a dam dog fish. But in general, as far as catching goes, pretty much lame.

Fished Lakeside as soon as I got into Milwaukee and caught nothing. Went to the big muskie a few times and caught some small pike. The Milwaukee River, the Kinnickinnic river and some other river some dude at the pet store turned me on to, all fished several times and pretty lame results, some small pike and a single smallmouth.

I either need to find better locations or I need to get a better clue technique wise to fish the waters I'm already on. I'm feeling pretty clueless. I've run the complete gamut of technique that I know and wandered into some things I don't like flutter spoons.

Can you recommend new locations? Milwaukee area. I can travel a bit while still working. I certainly have the motivation.

Can you recommend gear approaches or species approach, even though I could care less about anything except for bass?

Thank you!

Tomorrow should be calmer, so if you're up to bigger water I would recommend pewaukee or okauchee. The waukesha lakes might deliver better results. Lately, most of my fish have come on spinnerbaits, but there are a lot of pike mixed in.

Lake Pewaukee it is. Thank you for the advice. I'm going tomorrow. Spinners all day. Lol.

Do you have a pedal kayak? I saw someone on a yak out today. Any luck? I was surprised with how many musky guys were out today, but I guess it makes sense given the packer bye week.

I do have a peddle kayak, could have easily been me, hopefully I wasn't looking or acting like a dummy.

Feel free to yell "BASS RESOURCE?!?!" at me from across the water if there is ever a next time.

Beautiful place. Bait shop at the dock is nice though I stuck to spinners as planned.

Caught two. Long day for two but I'll learn. Hella boats out, learning how to not get run over, I need a boaters safety course. Or they do.

Grass of the island seems to be the spot.

Thank you all for the help.

They are making me work tomorrow. So . . no immediate round two.
