I have a 6'6ft okuma celilo ultra light rod paired with a penn fierce 2000 reel. I use it for bass and pan fish.  I love the setup, its ultra sensitive and ive reeled in up to a 4pounders no problem. The problem i do have is sometimes i make mistakes and throw my lures into trees or they get snagged on the bottom of a lake/pond. Ive lost some good lures to snags and its starting to hurt my pocket! lol

 

I was thinking about moving to braid , but im worried about the no stretch and potentially ripping hooks out of fish's mouths.

 

Is there any fishing line that will give me more dragging power, so i can pull out the lures from snags ?

I use a copolymer fishing line. Mainly Excaliber Silver Thread copolymer. I use 4lb line for trout, 6lb for bass. I seen 5lb line somewhere.

As far as treble hooks in trees once there dug in there impossible to get out. Stay calm when casting, don't rush.

That's the cost of fishing, more so with lighter tackle.

Mccoy copolymer is all I use on spinning gear. No memory and great knot strength. Having said that, I don't think there is a line that will keep you from losing lures.

I use P-line Fluroclear in either 4 or 6 pound on my UL spinning rods.  

Also 10 pound Power Pro braid to a 6 pound leader works great too.  That rig will give you the sensitivity of braid and will also give you some stretch using the leader.  We usually go with somewhere around 6-8' leader.

I also use 4 lb P-Line fluoroclear on my UL rig. Seems to work well.

I'd say 5-10# power pro.

If you go braid, 10lb PowerPro = 2lb diameter mono.

 

I spooled all of my spinning and casting gear with 

braided mainline due to ease of management, and 

always tie on a leader from 4-15lbs.

 

The 4 in P-Line Floroclear is a great suggestion, or

you can go with Yo-Zuri Hybrid, or other copoly.

 

As for snags, them's the breaks. Sometimes there is

nothing you can do...

I know the stuff isn't popular, but 4# Fireline seems to have a very high breaking strength, as does the 4# and 6# Yo-Zuri Hybrid copoly.  One of my ultralight spinning rigs is spooled with that 4# Fireline with a 4# Hybrid leader and I can sometimes straighten lighter single hooks and get baits back.

It's the price of doing business.  For panfish I use Sufix Hi-vis yellow in 4 lb., easy to see those light hits.  A trick you might try, if you're in a boat and can position over top of your snagged lure, clip on one of those sinkers with the clip on eye and let it drop straight down the line.  Sometimes that will knock loose your lure.

Why would you rip hooks out of a fishes mouth? The soft flex of an ultra light rod will soften the hook sets. No need to use a huge hook set with braid. Just a short, firm set will do the trick. No stretch will be a nice improvement over the stretchy light mono.

I use 10# power pro and wouldn't a thing. They also make a 5# braid that is blue and supposed to be for ice fishing. It is 1# diamater and kinda expensive for what you get.
