Extra Heavy jigs

- Whats extra heavy to you? 1 oz? 2 oz? I use 50lb braid or 20lb fluoro for my 1.5 oz football jigs.

Medium Heavy topwater

- assuming you are talking about 3/4oz ones? 30/40lb braid

Medium Heavy crankbaits

- how deep do these things dive? if deep, I use 15-17lb fluoro, otherwise 12lb mono or 30lb braid

- whats "smaller"? 3/8oz?1/4oz?1/8oz? I use anywhere between 4-8lb mono/fluoro or 10lb braid.

Pros and Cons of what line test to use.

- For me, all those line strengths (test) is chosen to be the weakest/thinnest line I can get away with for my local fishery. I dont know what kind of place you fish or what kind of fish you catch, so those might not work for you at all.

 

Just want to see what line test is the average.

For heavy jigs, assuming you are fishing them deep, I'd do braid with a FC leader. 

For topwaters, I use #30 braid, allows for a good hookset, but it's harder to keep the fish on the line. But if you are using poppers, then #10 Co-Poly (P-line) hands down. 

For cranks, i use #10 Co-Poly, It's pretty good, feels like mono but better hooksets.   

For spinners I use #12 Sunline Reaction FC, stuff is awesome. 

 

2/12 of my set ups are spinning rods, both are meant for finesse presentations.

One is #30 Sunline SX1 with #8 Invizx leader. I use that for shakeyheads, wacky rigs and T-rigs. 

Number 2 is purely #8 Invizx used for my girlfriend/buddy when they come with. 

Most of my reels carry a mono or copolymer line.  Cheap.  Handles well.  Low visibility.  Or high visibility if I use Neon Tangerine.  May not be the best for every situation, but I feel these lines do an excellent all-around job.

 

Casting rods:  Heavy 17#, MH 12#, Medium 8#, ML & Light 6#.

 

Spinning rods:  30# braid on a MH Worm & Jig, 8# mono Medium and ML, 10# braid on a Light.

 

Only rods I use for one specific type of lure is my cranking rod (currently 10# mono, but will drop to 8# when line needs changing) and a Lightning rod for spinnerbaits.  It carries 15# mono only because that is what the guy put on it when he cleaned the reel for me.  Otherwise it would have a 12# mono or copolymer.  My STX get used on various rods for fishing in the slop.  It carries 40# braid.  My pitching and flipping rod (a HF) carries 55# braid even though it has never been used for flipping and pitching. 

 

I do not fish heavy swimbaits or I'd probably be using a 20# copolymer or mono on one rod.
