I posted this in the south east sub forum but it's gotten no responses yet so I'm gonna try it here maybe more people will see it here.

Were planning a family vacation cation to hobe sound Florida this spring to spend a week with my gfs sister. What's some good spots to fish in the area I'm getting a day or two to go off by myself and fish. I see lake okeechobee isn't to far by the looks of it and hobe sound is also right on the coast. We are drivin down also so I might take the kayak with me I'm just wondering bout gators if I take it and go in some the canals or okeechobee.

Not too familiar with that part of florida but if there is fresh water that you will be fishing there will be gators in it. I have never had a problem with them. They don't bother you unless you get too close to a nest. Just be mindful of your surroundings.

I opted out of a kayak when we made a trip to SC after Bluebasser86 posted a kayak/gator encounter.

Honestly, I don't know if there's a bad spot in the state.  When I used to live there a buddy of mine took us "ditch fishing" where you literally drive around dirt roads looking for standing water on the side of the road, to fish for bluegill.  We had a "bad day", but still caught like 30 fish.  Scope out some good spots, but you should have a good time no matter what.
