Iine and Reel for weighted flukes/soft plastic swim baits

Featured Replies

Picked me up a 7'2  carbonlite. Gonna use for weighted flukes, the pre rigged powerbaits and other weight soft swimbaits. Do you want a 6 something gear or a faster ratio. Also line fluro or mono? i was think 14-15 lb test. Most of the ones i have messed with are 1 oz. and under. This is  a tech ive also been wanting to mess with this season.

I like the Owner weighted swimbait hooks in 1/8th oz. and prefer Zoom Swimming Super Fluke Jr. , Keitech Easy Shiner , Big Bite Cain Thumper and Missle Bait Shockwave to name a few ... Line is flexible in either polymer or FC #12 lb. to #17 lb. or #20 lb. ~ #30 lb. braid with polymer or FC leader size depending on cover . As for retrieve , you can try various depths right down to the bottom slowly scrubbing the tops of rocks and obstructions .

thanks, what is your opinion on reel ratio.

I'd say 6.3 to 1 would be about right. 7 to 1 is probably too fast. I bought 3 new Tatula reels in various speeds with the intent of making my 6.3 to 1 for small swimbaits like the Keitechs.

thanks, I have a 6'10 new *** for weightless fluke and weightless worms. I am quite excited to get this set up going. i figured a 6.3 or 6.5 would be good
