hard heads

Featured Replies

i started making my own hard head rigs and have been using them since august. i have thought about starting to sell them, but im not sure if its legal or not.  i remember seeing all of the press about reaction innovations legal issues with other people selling too similar of beavers.  can anybody help clear this up?

thanks,

Ben

what exactly is a hard head rig? are you talking about the wire bottom rigs people use to catch hard heads? there would be no legal issues selling those....

I think you will be fine selling them. There seem to be a lot of hooks like that.

I guess you could find out the true answer by looking up patents for that type of hook.

You could probably sell them but I definately wouldnt use the "hardhead name" that gene larew got to first. Maybe call them swivel shakey or something like that

thanks guys, i hope you are right lol.  ya i definately wont use the hardhead name but i havent thought about a good name yet.  i just modified a football jig mold, and bend up a solid piece of stainless wire for the eyes.

ben, any tips on how you modified your football head mold? I have an old do-it mold that i dont use anymore. i would like to convert it.

The patten isn't effective if yours are 10% different.

lol im not sure what 10% difference is but i think im ok.  i dont have any pictures yet, but i basically just dremmeled out the mold for the hook to sit in and filled the shank and weedguard of the jig with putty.  you have to use a single piece of wire or it wont fit well and it isnt nearly strong enough.
