Tackle box latch... how to put it back on!

Featured Replies

I lunged for a rod/reel combo going overboard from a limb that reached down into my boat and grabbed it, lol. I landed on my tackle box and broke the latch off. I thought it was broken but actually, it just snapped off. This is a Plano 1374 box that looks like the below. (Image should be rotated 90 deg counter-clockwise.)

Those two plastic pins are molded into the latch. The pins stick into holes in the tackle box. I can't get them to go in and I am afraid I am going to snap the pins off, which would not be good on a $65 tackle box! Any idea how to get the latch back on without breaking?

You'll have to put one side in first then press the other side in, I'm talking about the little studs sticking out

Well, yeah, that's what I'm trying to do, but wow, is it tight. Wondering if anyone knows a trick working with plastic.

Happy to report, I heated it with a hair dryer (the part where the hole goes) and that was enough to where it worked without breaking.

Glad you were able to save it

Use some Mend-It ;)
