Which size crappie hook for yo-yo

Featured Replies

In the south, we sometimes use yo-yo automatic fishing reels that are attached to tree limbs to fish for crappie (white perch to me!). I haven't done this in years, but they are biting at night bigtime. I see that people are using a cam type of hook these days, so, I googled it and find that the cam shape is supposed to give a better hookset. Seems reasonable. But, which size hook? Anyone have an opinion?

That's crazy haha. I always use #6 or #4 gold aberdeen hooks depending on the size of the minnow I'm fishing with. Most people use #1 or 1/0 aberdeens but I don't like them that big.

I've used small circle hooks before and you don't hardly lose any fish with those, they may be worth a shot if your yo-yo doesn't take up line too quickly. Owner Mosquito Circle Hook.

Not really my type of fishing.. sort of falls in the same area as limb lining...

Tru-turn are my favorite crappie hooks. #6-4 depending on bait size.
