Any info on new Loomis NRX rods?

Featured Replies

As we all know they discontinued what I thought was a nice rod, the green ones. I hate the blue and know I'm not alone and don't believe for a second that there not coming out with a different color or different NRX all together. Has anyone heard anything in regards to this?

When the NRX rods came to market they only came in the blue flavor. Green never even existed. In the early stages there was a bad batch of rods that had reel seat issues. Loomis corrected this problem with new reel seat components for the blue rods. Around the same time they introduced the green flavor which featured a painted blank and a slightly different visual look. After the past few years the sales data reflected much lower sales for the Green rods as they were just less popular. Some claim they feel the green rods aren't as sensitive and others feel no difference between the two colors.

I really believe they probably won't replace the green rods yet or give it a complete overhaul. By doing so one would also think the blue rods would get the same treatment in all areas except for the cosmetic details. It would not make sense to only change the green and leave the blue rods as is so I would say they are just moving away from the green flavor for the time being. I could be wrong but with all the new products being launched I around the Classic/Spring I would have ventured something would have leaked by now. Guess we will have to wait and see...

Maybe I am in the minority, but I much prefer the blue.

For its aesthetics or do u think its more sensitive? Have u owned a green one?

I can't believe they sell more blue, pretty sure the majority on here prefers the green also. I had 2 blue and recently sold them and I'm about to purchase a dozen green ones. I really hope the blue ones aren't more sensitive, I find it hard to believe someone could actually tell the difference.

Aesthetics...and I don't think I am alone.  There is a reason they sold way more blue and are discontinuing/blowing out the green.

The blue NRX is iconic in my opinion.  The green looks like every other rod on my rack.

Cool so u do own both, can u tell a difference in sensitivity? Thanks

Everyone knows that the color green is much more sensitive than blue. Black is the most sensitive.

No.  I only own Blue.  Like I said, my preference is purely Aesthetic.  I can not intelligently comment on the difference in sensitivity.  I am pretty confident I would not be able to feel the difference.

I have both the green and the blue and I don't know a difference in sensitivity between the colors, but I do notice a change in sensitivity between the various models (i.e., I find the 822S SYR to be the least sensitive and the 895C JWR as the most sensitive of the ones I own).

As far as new rods coming out, I do hope they expand their line-up in the NRX blank, but I am pretty sure they won't be adding any new colors.  From the Shimano Rep. I spoke with, the Blue one outsold the Greens by a large margin and it just wasn't economically feasible to continue to support supplying the line in green.

i have read numerous people report that the blue and the green NRXs are identical in weight and sensitivity. personally, i don't see how that's possible since the green has paint and the glossy clear coat which the blue does not have. according to malaysia airlines, the paint on a 747 adds 1,200 pounds to the plane so it's not like paint weighs nothing.

that being said, i've got my first green NRX on the way...i'll see how i like it compared to my blue ones.

I own both green and blue. I can't tell any difference in sensitivity.

I do prefer the looks of the blue. The only reason I got green in  the first place is because of the timing of the purchase. I got it when the green ones were first released and I was afraid if I bought blue I might get one from the old stock. I got green to guarantee safety from the reel  seat problems.

Since the problem has been solved I have bought 3 NRX's and all were blue.  If I could trade my green 893 for blue I would do it in a second.

I was gonna paint flames on mine.  Everyone knows that if you paint flames on something, it will go faster.
