Heavy or M/H rod selection

Featured Replies

I want to get a new fishing rod, I currently have 2 crankbait rods (one spinner and one casting) and want to start expanding my selection.

The area I live in down in south east Georgia doesn't have many fishing opportunities outside of PFAs, the Ogeechee River and for someone that doesn't have a boat, but the areas I have been to tends to have a lot of cover from the banks I want to fish from (lots of pads and grass).

So I'm wondering from the more experienced here if with the limited options I have to fish from, if I should get a M/H rod for worms/jigging or go with a Heavy rod for Frogging and whatever else heavy rods can provide me(flipping I think?).

Also I'm a relatively inexperienced bass (or any) angler, I've caught only 2 tiny bass so far.

Depends how big the bass you're fishing are. And what type of cover.

I prefer a MH over heavy in most cases because the fish max out at 5-6lbs where I am from and the heavy rod would be overkill. A lot of medium heavies are close in back bone to a heavy action these days.

A lot of the Florida and California guys use heavy because they have 10lbs+ bass in heavy vegetation.

Also spinning rods usually aren't used for crankbaits.

Go with the Veritas 2.0 in the 7'6" MH fast action model and you will be able to cover a lot of options (frogs, jigs, pitching plastics)

Based on your limited experience so far, I would recommend a 7ft, MH, Fast,  rod. This rod will cover a broader array of baits for you including a frog. As you gain more experience on the water and are looking to expand your arsenal, then look into a H rod.

TY for the help, I was initially leaning towards the H rods but started gravitating to MH due to their versatility.

MH it is then.
