Daiwa Samurai Combo

Featured Replies

I saw these on the Dicks Sporting Goods website:

I thought that they were nice looking combos for the price and have been thinking about picking one up in 6' 6" or 7'.  I would probably use it most as a "beater" rod or to loan out to friends, but might use it myself every once in a while.  I know that it may not be the best, but can you beat it for $20?  Does anybody have any experience/feedback on them?

While not having experience with that particular combo, a solid bulk of my gear is made up of Daiwa products, including my two "cheap" spinning combos.  They cost $20 and $40, have been going strong and been catching a lot of fish for five years now.  Not the best, but they get it done.  Daiwa usually puts out good stuff for all price points.

i had 2 older model samurai combos (not this particular one that has the X on the end....)  while they did work, they both failed on me after a while of use.  the rods were fine, but both reels seized up on me after some moderate use on freshwater fishing only.  I kept the rods for a while longer and put different reels on them.

I have a 6'6 Samurai combo that I keep in my car. Aside from it being a little soft it has worked well for me. And it is pretty durable rod. You might want to get the 7' MH to get a bit more stiffness. But I think the 7' rod is quite a bit heavier.
