Replacing rattle back jig skirts

Featured Replies

I recently bought a bunch of old Rattle Back Jigs with a fixed rattle and was wondering if anyone had any advice on replacing the skirts an easier way or any tips. I make most of my own skirts but these rattle backs are giving me a tuff time.

Thanks and tight lines,

I use a cheapo fly tying vise and tie a new one on is the best way i found

Either tie on a new skirt using braid or rip off the stock rattle and replace with a skirt collar that has rattle holders build into it.

Dead Soft Wire, found in Walmart's crafts section, would probably be the easiest way to tie a skirt in place and it's fairly easy to work with. Our local store has 3 sizes and I have used the middle size to tie a few lures.
