Hi gang, 

When I am not fishing I work in film and TV production. Will be doing a commercial in May in Minneapolis. Scene calls for a father/son bass fishing. Can anyone point me to the top 3 best spots to potentially film? Talent will likely be on a battery operated boat. Looking for the best scenic options. Strong visuals in the foreground/background, etc.

lake of the isles launch at Calhoun troll to isles and fish the banks lots of nice bass to catch. You will be able to film the mpls sky line and see pretty girls and catch fish in the same shot

I'd suggest getting away from Minneapolis lakes if you're looking for quiet scenery. You're gonna have a lot of docks, watercraft, and boat-wakes in the shot.

Get a half-hour away from the Metro in any direction and you can have a whole lake to yourself!

Lake Calhoun will give you a great view of the Minneapolis skyline. As mentioned previously, it can be busy but that may be a good thing if you want runners/walkers/boats/etc. Lake Harriet may be another one to consider, although I don't remember if you can get the skyline in a shot (at least not as good as Calhoun). Lake Nokomis would be similar to Lake Harriet- nice scenery and many people out and about walking around. All of these are in Minneapolis so it would be easy if that's the city you're planning to stay in.

If you're willing to travel further, the bluffs near Taylor's Falls (north of Stillwater about 45-60 minutes from Minneapolis) on the St. Croix River would make a nice background. Many, MANY more options if you're willing to drive a little ways. 

My best advice would be to google some images of all places mentioned and pick which one would be best suited for your scene. One thing's for certain, you have plenty of options if you're looking for lakes in MN!

if you want a really quiet lake, there is one tucked away in north north Minneapolis almost robbinsdale called ryan lake

If you go on a sunny day around dusk you will see the sun fade into the trees and its a nice.

there is hardly any people on it much less on the water fishing.

also, Lake of the isles is a great spot
