Pirogue fishing near Atlanta

Featured Replies

Greetings all. I'm a recent transplant to Atlanta from Louisiana (grew up in Shreveport/Mansfield/Many/Zwolle). I don't have a bass boat available, but I do have my 12 ft pirogue with a trolling motor that I've used countless times in NE Louisiana for fishing and duck hunting. Looking for any lakes, bayous, creeks, ponds, rivers etc. within a reasonable drive from Atlanta that I could drop it in the water and fish (preferably largemouth, stripers, or maybe some crappie). Any easily accessible locations that are good spring/summer fishing would be greatly appreciated!

Last time I fished out of a pirogue my cousin flipped us over.

In the marsh above New Orleans on the other side of Lake Pontchartrain.

Have fun and remember to yell "Geaux Tigers" when you set the hook and wear purple and gold at all times while fishing.

Geaux Tigers!!!

P.S.  Are you a guy who can be used on a college baseball team as a relief pitcher and who can throw strikes? if so, I have the name of a college baaseball coach at a great university who could use your services.

And Mitch, please go to the Introductions section and introduce yourself.

Crawfish. Think crawfish.

can you specify a little bit on where exactly in Atlanta?  If you can narrow that part down, i can probably offer you a few suggestions that would be somewhat in your area of town.

Try Blackshoals once the water returns.. I-20 west, exit 82 (goggle it). Lipless has always tagged them in the 4-6lb range, there is also a large amount of sunken timber there as well, so you have some real options to try, there is also Lake Varner which is a little further up, exit 91 I think anther place where lipless crankbaits shine.

Good Luck
