I have a 7'6" MH  / F inshore saltwater rod rated for 1/4 to 3/4 oz with a 4000 series spinning reel and #20 lb. braid . My question is whether this set up could also double as a Carolina Rig set up in lakes for bass  (with the appropriate mono or FC line size leader ) ? ... I darn sure could cast far and cover water ! Thanks in advance for your opinions !

It might not be ideal, but it would certainly work.

my cousin's husband fishes a c rig more than any other bait.  he does it all on a spinning rig.  i believe it's a 7' MH with a similar sized reel as yours, maybe a 3000.  and the dude catches fish, all year long on that setup!  

IMHO, that setup is taylor made for the Petey Rig. If you don't know what that is, its basically a finesse c rig that is ideal for a spinning set up. 

Rig it by securing a weight above the hook useing a bobber stop (2 if useing a 1/2 oz or more) and dragging along a hard bottom as a c rig or moving through the grass with a lift and drop retrieve. 

The weight will sink into the grass leaving the plastic to fall slowly into it. 

Try it you may be surprised.

just about a perfect setup,try using braid with a flour or mono leader. in stained water stick with all braid. super sensitive
