Line Choice!

Featured Replies

We decided to give P-Line Flouroclear a try this season for trout fishing. Went with the 6lb. test as that is the lowest test our spinning reels specifications listed. Wish us luck!!!

I used 8lb with a 4lb leader attached to a swivel and I was pleasantly surprised.

What makes you think that you can't go lower than what is printed on your reel?

I wouldn't advise going higher.. for obvious reasons.. But a lot of guys down south use size 40 reels for crappie with 4# line. The theory is the bigger spool will have less twists of the line and allow for easier casting of small jigs.

P line fluoroclear is actually a pretty good line, especially in the lower tests. It's a copolymer with a fluorocarbon coating. TT did a review of it back in 03 and they seemed to like it quite a bit.

P-line Fluoroclear is an excellent line. I've used 4lb for trout for years, and I've never had any issues with it. A good friend of mine (who just happens to be loaded and could afford to use line spun out of gold) swears by it. It's kind of funny to see him spool such inexpensive line onto a $600 reel.
