Reel for 6' light spinning rod

Featured Replies

I have a 500 sized spinning reel would it be too small for a 6' light power rod?

I started out with just a 6' L rod, and I have tried it with both a Shimino 1000 and an Okuma 500 and while the 1000 does balance a bit better, the 500 caught me plenty of fish over the last year or so.  The little reel does weigh almost nothing, so it makes the rig a joy to carry around all day.

I've got a Penn 430SS on my 35-40 year old 6' Lightning.  You may not be able to find one, tho.  :D  Caught many fish on it in my younger days.  Notice I didn't say youth.  :(

I can't say enough about the Shimano Solstace 1000,A great reel at a great price.
