Spare Fuel?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 4.35mtr bass type fishing boat with a 2 stoke 50 on the back, it is relatively new and have not had it out on a long trip really.

Do you think one 25 ltr tank would be sufficient for a days outing with a bit of motoring around?

If I bought a spare, would it be ok to store it up under the front hatches considering I have a GEL CEL battery up there running the Kota, my thinking is so long as the tank is sealed and no leaks it will be fine.

Thanks, your opinions greatly appreciated

Sounds like a trick question.lol

It all depends on how much motoring you do, and how far away you want to get from your launch site.

Your kota should help you with some of that distance.

as of putting it up with the battery, I would try to put something in between as the wires may also get hot. Something like a styrofoam cooler top would probably work

Gasoline melts styrofoam. If even a few drops of the gas leaked out it would turn to napalm. You need to keep the extra fuel container in a well ventilated area.

You also need to make sure it is not illegal in your area.

i have the battery in a battery box, which should stop anything.

I will most likely store the fuel up agains the back now anyhow in between the 2 pedestal seats, strap it down there somehow.

How far are you looking to motor around? I would think that you would have more than enough fuel without bringing another tank. I think you might be going a little overboard if you brought more fuel. I wouldn't think you would even need it. I could understand if you where talking about a two day outing. If your just out bass fishing your going to use more trolling motor than your big motor. If you really want to know watch your fuel gauge and figure out how far you can go on a tank. Go out far enough to burn half a tank then run back to the ramp. If you carry an extra gas can you might be asking for trouble. I wouldn't do it. If I really need to travel that far to catch fish I would use a different launch ramp.

Ive ended up just getting 2 10ltr jerry cans which fit under with the existing 25ltr tank, this should be more than enough.

Have also unscrewed part of the decking to allow for venting as there are no vent where the tank sits, i dont know if this uis unusual or not, but this is how the boat was supplied new
