Wanted: Boat for Teens

Featured Replies

a couple of friends and i are looking to buy a boat, we are limited on money and experience.  we want something small but big enough for 3 people.  looking to keep ourselves occupied this summer.  We are 17 and need some ideas... got aany?

we got a canoe...it works good for 3 people and is made by pelican. it has a seat in front and in back and a seat in the middle which is also a cooler.  Pretty stable and for around 300$ cant be beat!

actually i just saw a picture of it on another post on how to hang the canoe... i think if i'm correct that you live in ohio and that's pretty far away form texas and to get it here would be a hassle but thank you

Get yourselves a used12 ft. jon boat with oars.  Heck, it worked for me when i was young.  You can fish three out of it.

Keep an eye out in the Thrifty Nickel or the Austin classifieds and you'll probably come across a jon boat that is suitable for your needs.  I would think a canoe a little tippy for three people.  I take my family out in a 12 footer (but my daughter is 6 and my wife isn't near as big as I am).  I'd recommend at least a 14 footer for three teenagers so you can have a little more room.  If your lucky, you could probably get the boat for under $200, and get a trolling motor for about $100 and a marine battery for another 50 that you could scrounge up somewhere (look under the sofa cushions,LOL).

haha thanks, yeah we were worried about tipping in a little canoe, my friend just recently sold his jon boat about six months ago to a family down in lousiana and it would have been perfect...just bad timing i guess

thanks again

i would go with the 14 footer myself i got a 12 foot john boat and just me and my gear is all i can get on it and thats only a tackle bag 3 are 4 poles 2 trollin motors and 2 batterys you at least want 2 battries because it sucks tryin to row a john boat into the wind when you run a battry down it would even be worse with 3 people the extra battery is just for insurance my friend trust me  lol
