Hello all, I'm looking for some tips/ tackle reccommendations for fishing the St.Lawrence  (Clayton and Ticonderoga) and Lake Champlain  (Plattsburgh). I'm a member of our schools newly formed bass club (still very early stages) and we are trying to get into some of the nytbf colligiate cup tournaments. Problem being; I don't think there is a pre-fish, and none of us have ever fished up that way. We are all from wny or around rochester. 

So, I'm just curious how you guys fish these waters, and a general idea of the gear you'd recommend. I'd hate to drive 6 hours and get on the water to realize things like; I don't have a heavy enough bullet weight or jig, deep or shallow enough diving crank, small or large enough anything, etc... I know everyone always has an assortment of everthing but we are all broke college kids and can't really afford to stock up our boxes on stuff we probably won't use, and our school won't kick in funds untill next year. 

 

Any tips or reccommendations will be greatly appreciated,  I know guys like to keep their most productive stuff secret, but we would just like a general idea of what to bring and what to expect.

When are you going to be on Champlain  (Ticonderoga and Plattsburgh) and in Clayton?  I know a thing or two about Champlain.

The st.lawrence river (clayton) is July 24th and the lake Champlain (Plattsburgh) is September 18th. The st.lawrence  (Ticonderoga) is actually the championship of the colligiate cup so theres a good chance we won't make it to that one lol, we're only 3 members strong right now

There's a Ticonderoga on the St. Lawrence, too?  I live about 25 miles south of the Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain.

I honestly have no idea, that's just what is printed on the flyer our club president gave us at out first meeting. Could be typo

It is a typo (Geography and History degrees from UVM).  Message me about northern champ in September.   I'll point you in the right directions.  Don't sell yourself short, on getting to Ti.  If you want information on that I will be glad to help too.
