Is it better to buy a older bass boat for $5000 or hold out a little longer and get a newer bass boat for $10,000?  Is there more that is going to go wrong with a $5000 boat verse a $10,000 boat?  What do you guys think?

If you can find a well cared for $5000 boat I would go for it. A newer $10,000 boat is going to be small and underpowered. You could get a $5000 boat that is much bigger and more horespower but a few years older. A guy in our bass club just sold a 1993 19ft vision in excellent condition with a 1996 johnson 150 which was like new  and all for $5500. I would prefer that to a $10,000 16 footer w/ 25 hp anytime.

Id go for the older boat just for the reason gambler just pointed out, you get more horse power and and a bigger boat. Heres a perfect example of that,I was just looking at basstrackers but found an awesome skeeter that was in brand new condition for the same price and got that instead.

I'm with both above.  I started out looking for a aluminum bass tracker type boat and after doing research bought a '93 Stratos 201 XL (20' boat) with a 200 hp Evinrude in decent condition.  for $5,000.00.  I love being able to tackle any lake in almost any condition!  Let alone all the room and another $5,000.00 in pocket to cover any repairs that may arise.

In response to your ? is it better to buy older or wait for newer.  I blowed a piston in my 90 model skeeter earlier this yr. and it cost me 2600 to fix!  Mechanic told me you did nothing wrong..... those things just happen sometimes on older boats and early to mid 90's mercs are bad to do this.  I'm back on the water now and maybe if I can find the money I'll move into a newer boat myself in a few more yrs.
